    Understanding your right and responsibilities is an important part of your journey at TAFE NSW. Find out about your obligations, class attendance, academic integrity, appeals, consumer protection, copyright, privacy and how to access key information.

    Protecting your privacy

    Any personal information you provide to »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥is protected under the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 and the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Regulation 2005.

    Any health information you provide is protected under the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002.

    The information we ask you to provide will only be used for your course enrolment, learning and study records. Information provided will be held securely and disposed of securely, when no longer needed.

    During your enrolment, you’ll be asked to acknowledge your acceptance and understanding of the Student Privacy Policy and  consent. You will also need to provide consent for us to access information held by the Australian Government Services Australia ().

    Training attendance

    As a student, you have a responsibility to participate and engage in training and assessments to progress through your course.

    Participating in your studies means you:

    • submit your assessments

    • attend classes, online units, practical sessions, exams and tests

    • contact your teacher or learner support when you need help

    • access activities and pages in the learning management system or Moodle

    • apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), where appropriate.

    We understand that unexpected things can happen.. Please speak with your teacher as soon as possible if:

    • you’re sick

    • you’re unable to complete an assessment, or

    • you’ve missed an assessment due to unexpected events.

    If you're not participating in your studies regularly, »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥will get in touch with you. We can offer you support or help you decide whether you’d like to continue your studies. If we’re unable to contact you, you may be withdrawn from the course.

    If you’re a TAFE-delivered Vocational Education and Training (TVET) or School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBAT) student and are not participating in your studies, we’ll contact your school. This may impact your HSC.


    Consumer protection

    »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥has a reputation as a safe, progressive and dynamic place to study. We aim to provide an environment that supports quality vocational education and training that benefits students, industries and the wider community.

    As a »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥student, you have the right to:

    • expect your education and training will be consistent with the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) regulations and Smart and Skilled Contract requirements

    • be informed about personal information that is collected about you and the right to review and correct that information

    • access to TAFE NSW feedback and complaints handling process.

    Access to information

    The Government Information Public Access Act (GIPA Act) gives you the right to request access to documents held by most government agencies, including TAFE NSW.

    Some documents may be informally available while others will require a formal application to be made.

    Keep the Student Guide close to learn how to achieve your study goals, access systems and services, understand your rights and responsibilities, and more.

    Academic integrity appeal form

    The academic integrity appeal form allows you to request a review of decisions related to breaches of academic integrity.

    To submit an appeal, you must do so within 20 business days from the date you received the outcome letter.

    You must be logged into your »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥account to access the form. The form also allows you to upload supporting documents, so make sure your submission is thorough.

    Assessment appeals

    If you wish to have an assessment result reviewed or make an appeal against an assessment result, you must first speak to your teacher or Head Teacher.

    Alternatively, complete the Assessment Appeal Request Form and submit it to the email address provided in the form.

    Copyright and fair use

    Copyright infringement happens when you copy something protected by copyright without permission. Course materials, such as presentations and assessments, are protected by copyright laws.

    To avoid breaking copyright laws:

    • Get written permission from »ÆÉ«Ö±²¥before sharing course materials in person or online.

    • Only copy course materials if it is for research or study.
